well I am updating my list of campus/community radio stations in Canada. It is not fun on a 22.6 modem. However I am going to remedy that later today and buy a new PC. I wanted to get all the updated music directors' names, and I feel good that I did, cause a couple stations changed addresses.

In any case, I'm getting excited looking at all the different websites... some, more than others, am wondering how the staff will react to my music. [livejournal.com profile] dynamatt17 got me thinking about that; ie there are different regions that have different tastes in music, like maybe Northern Ontario, Eastern Townships areas in Quebec, and maybe the Maritimes might like it better. Indeed my music is a wee bit Colocs influenced, and since 1993, when Les Colocs had their first album out, there seems to be a whole shitload of country-punk-rock-a-pop-a-billy music there to be found. So maybe I'll fit right in. I am interested in Quebec in general, so I already have a French bio ready to go in the mailouts. During my browsing today, I learned that "palmarès" means "charts" in French. I am hoping that "directeur musical" means Music Director, because that's what I'm using! I did see it on one French station's website.

There was one station that had 6 music directors. LOL They had 2 of "Alt/Indie Rock/Punk Music Director" and one "Metal Director". That just sounds funny. I just put Music Director on their database entry. But now maybe I think I should address it "Attn: Quirky Folk-Pop Music Director" mph bwa ha ha ha ha!

You could send one to my friend Allison Brown at CHRW (UWO's station). She does a folk show and is looking for indie artists.

Lemme know if you want me to e-mail you her mailing address. Or likewise send it to CHRW to her attention.

They're on my list. Thanks for the tip, it's good to have a specific person to send it to, otherwise it can end up in the delete pile, if that station is not really excited about your kind of music. I know that community radio is all about the openness and innovation, but country music is what I saw a lot of on the delete pile at CHRY. However CHRY is all about the hiphop. But my front cover is kinda CBC Radio 3 inspired with the 70s furniture, so I think that will help. I'm sure most community radio stations would delete immediatley any corporate country music CDs without a second thought. Technically my music's not country, but def in the neighborhood with the bardy folky stuff.

I compiled a list of about 40 community radio stations across Canada. However when I toted up the possible postage costs once, I'll be mailing them out not all at once. I was gonna hit Quebec and Ontario first (comprising pretty much half the list) to see if I got any type of reaction before spending $ to send them further out... however I'm prolly going to go "whatever" and send them anyhow. I might also hit a bunch in the southern States too now. It IS a CD with low production values, so I'm hoping to squeak by on my quirkiness.

The States' college stations in particular are pretty receptive to any indie artist. I know I've heard loads of indie artists I've only read about up here on their stream. College and uni radio in general is very eclectic down there (their open format is WAY open [i.e., I've heard a hip hop tune and then a neo-classical tune within two songs]) so that may wrk in your favour.
