Well I spent an enjoyable afternoon in Toronto today.

I go to Toronto every day to work, but we had a short work day today, so at 3pm I was free to go, and I decided to go check out the 2 cathedrals in Toronto. In Germany I checked out cathedrals everywhere I went, and figured I should know what the architecture looks like in my own region.

I saw St. Michael's Cathedral, the Catholic one, and St. James' Cathedral, the Anglican one. St. Mike's was kind of dingy, it is Gothic, has yellow brick blackened by pollution. There was a wedding going on, so I only peeked in at the interior. I realized that I had been there before for some event. St. James is Gothic too, but was prettier, and there was a wedding there too, so the carillion was dingdangdonging festively. It had some park benches, so the carillion and park lent it a more European feel, whereas St. Mike's is more jammed in among the city buildings, and it didn't help that around it was construction confusion. I saw the Metropolitan church too, it is the one on Church St. with the park & pigeons for a front yard. I didn't get a peek inside cause it was locked.

Unfortunately I saw some cracked out sad people. One asked me for money, I gave her about 2 bucks, then when I went to McDonalds, she was there too and they kicked her out. Another was in tears, just standing there. Another befuddled lady was highly pregnant. These folks are not pretty, ie their clothes weren't fresh from the laundry, as in wearing visibly soiled clothing. Eeesh! *counting my blessings*

I went further north on Church St. and the street was blocked off for the Gay Pride festivities, like a street festival, with music and food, but shirts were optional, and a few Speedos and drag queens here and there.
It was 30 degrees celsius with a crazy humidity, and sunny, so I think I am a bit sunburnt. If it was cooler, it would have been more enjoyable, but I had never seen the pride day parade or anything, so it was cool to be in the area where the stuff was happening.

I even got a few errands done so it was a SUPER day. I got Decline of the American Empire (prequel to Barbarian Invasions)and 24 Hour Party People DVDs, and an Arcade Fire CD, doing my best to support the cool new Canadian music people. I got some travel stuff for my July trip to the Montreal Jazz Fest. AND a cool white hair clasp which is great cause I go to my work party tomorrow. Scores!

It was fun to kind of go out and not really have a plan and to just go and get out.
