In happier news, I have spent the majority of the day in my parents' air-conditioned house. I had a nap... and had a weird dream. (It was about cute ferret-like creatures who had to sell their young for 50 cents each. They were clearly not happy about it but relented nonetheless.) I am about to get down to some heavy-duty SEWING!!! moo hoo haa ha... Sewing and the resultant necessary ironing is so much more fun when room temp is below 25*C.
I also spent a productive (not!) 2-3 hours coaxing my dad's computer to talk to my cell phone so that I could download some java apps to it. I ended up installing the drivers twice, and the Nokia PC suite twice, and rebooting 3-4 times. THEN it worked. I used the voodoo logic of "if there's no reason why it's not working, then re-boot and re-open the program till the damn thing works" that I have to use with my ancient Macs.
I found a shopping list app that looks good, well for grocery shopping anyhow, cause you create all the food items, and can tick them off for the next time you go shopping, but I will have 3857298374 items cause I will put in things like "this week at work: C shift" and "buy photo storage boxes at Michaels for all those damn zipdisks and CDs cluttering up my desk" and "re-buy Uberjam CD that Neil lost" etc. At least I won't have to move the not-done tasks every day, like I have to now, with the Calendar program that I use now.
The morse code practice app wouldn't run at all so I deleted it :( and I now can play Simon and Asteroids on my phone. w00t! But I should charge it first.
I found out that because my parents bought a cottage, they cannot presently help me with a downpayment for a house. heh heh heh. guess I will have to... cancel my cable? got no cable. Quit smoking? don't smoke. Visualize myself $30,000 richer I guess. The good news is that I have found a cheaper neighborhood that is not 70km away from work, and might actually be in my price range: all hail glorious
