I had a good day. I had today off, I'm working Sat. instead.

I finished some sewing projects taht were taking way too long. They were of the type of task where I'm 95% finished, but I get fed up. So I did 5% work on 2-3 items so they are finally out of the way. I have plans to do finishing touches on another 2-3 tomorrow. I'm putting a new cover on my obusforme backrest that I use in my car, a hole wore through the fabric in one place. They're $80 for a new one. I managed to get some grey corduroy, it was a remnant so it was like $3, so I'm a happy camper. I just have to sew the new one. :D

I have to get going on reading my quark xpress book... gah reading school stuff, I don't have the discipline for that anymore. :P

Out of interest, do they teach you Adobe InDesign too? Martha uses both now, but has become an InDesign convert only in the last few months. It seems a lot of people also are switiching to it and require it for jobs.

No, just Quark, (Illustrator + Photoshop as well) but I was debating buying InDesign as well, so I could learn it.

Our teacher told us about a magazine that had a free version of Quark in one issue... missed it though. Some guy is selling them on eBay for $70. However I can get a student version of Quark for around $200, which is not bad compared to the usual $800. I have no plans to invest in a Mac, so it will be all Windows versions I'll be getting used to. :P

I have no need to use Quark at my job, and no plans to switch jobs, but I want to round out my skills just in case something catastrophic and/or life-changing were to happen. I got the bright idea to volunteer at a print shop or the local newspaper, so I can have some practical skills... if I can find a place that will take me on. The only problem might be fitting in volunteer hours around my work schedule, we shall see.

I'm getting bored at work, so something else to grab my interest will be nice to do.

What would be actually practical, for my work, would be to learn AfterEffects and some type of 3D software, but there are only so many hours in the day. I got a cracked version of AfterEffects from someone on a DVD ROM, but I have no idea how to install it - the instructions are handwritten, I don't think my CD ROM drive is a DVD drive, etc. (:o)

I really recommend picking up as much software on the student discount as you can...I know Martha would have had she known how much she needs and uses it now...it's a good investment for sure.
