Jul. 16th, 2005 03:24 pmWell I bought Charlie Mingus' Ah Um, and Miles Davis' Bitches Brew, in an effort to learn more jazz.
As I am listening on the way to and from work, perhaps I am not paying 100% attention.
I like the Mingus album first two or three tracks, then, for me, it kind of disintegrates. It was made in the 50s, and sounds like it. For some of it I could just see Ward & June Cleaver twirling around on a dance floor to it.
However the Miles album is pretty cool, he has 2 drummers, one in each ear, and the whole feel of the music is kind of looser. I like how Miles' trumpeting soars, and some of the later-on-the-CD tracks have a funky 70s Sesame Street music feel to them.
