Wow. I just spent the last 5 hours sorting out, transferring and deleting files off of my powerbook and old Win 98 computer. I was trying to make more room on the powerbook's hard drive so that if I record some music this week, I can dub it onto the computer & make MP3s without too much delay. I am preparing the Win 98 machine for when I get it repaired: it takes many tries to boot it up, and the internet doesn't work and neither does the CD drive. I think the internet not working has to do with the crappy state of the hard drive. I want to make it a Linux machine. But first I was making sure there was no stuff on there that wasn't backed up. Long story short, when you have an entire evening to while away, getting the least desireable jobs done, is easier, also backing up stuff gives you an awesome feeling. I have been trying to use my time wisely; dedicating the type of energy into my housework, that I should be perhaps putting towards maybe learning jazz piano or figuring out a MFA thesis.
I saw Shaun of the Dead earlier this afternoon with a friend of mine. I couldn't figure out the David character's accent. It was kind of Irish, kind of ?? The movie was pretty good on many levels - ie goofy loser best friends, being 30 with no career in sight, the prospect of these things turning you into a mindless zombie: figuratively or literally? Both.
I had an enjoyable weekend visiting my parents. We are at this point where I pop in for most of Sunday, and we discuss the office politics at the place my dad volunteers at, and my mom talks about the goings on at the schools she teaches at. It is very chummy, and cool. I want to pop in on my aunt this week and see if she will see I Heart Huckabees with me. Haven't dragged her out to a movie but it might be fun.
Since I changed my cell phone service to a contract instead of prepaid, I found out I can surf the internet, and it's not a Blackberry. It's a GSM Nokia phone. I could have checked my email with it but I needed to type caps for my login & password and I don't know how to get caps on my texting phone when I want them. It blew me away that I could surf. I knew I couldn't SMS so I figured I couldn't surf either. Now I'm tempted to make my webpages "optimized for phone surfing." LOL Browsing on the phone is slow. It's like being on dialup. But I'm used to that.
