I got a pair of Joni Mitchell CDs, the Hits & Misses set. I think I like the "Case Of You" Joni better than the "Chalk Marks in a Rainstorm" Joni.

Several music icons of my childhood have stopped making original music, and started making "nostalgic" collection CDs - Anne Murray, Jane Siberry, and Joni apparently doesn't sing at all anymore.

Now I have started writing lyrics, trying to dig deep, or at least give an honest opinion on what I see. I am 33, assuming anyone is fascinated by what I write right now, is there an age I reach that I might be doing the easy listening covers too?

Just because you get older, does that mean you don't have observations on society? Granted they don't always easily fit in a pop song. Or do we actually lose our ability to have a fresh take on events?

As you age, don't you get better at what you do?

Or has Joni, as an example, intellectualized songwriting, whereas newcomers to it are more apt to wear their heart on their sleeve?

Maybe some social commentary stuff is best suited to a book, rather than a 3 min pop song.

Age doesn't measure experience...with that different things have been learnt and yet to have been taught.
