Yahoo mail takes an awfully long time to load in my browser. I realize that it's cause I'm on dialup, but all the flash animation ads take twice as long to load as my actual messages do. Aren't flash files all vectors? What's the holdup? Sheesh. It's not like they're all jpegs or anything.

Flash graphics are vector-based, but can still contain bitmaps and audio, both of which bloat the filesize considerably. If the Flash movie has a lot of code, that can make it somewhat bigger too...

can still contain bitmaps

then those developers weren't paying attention in Illustrator class!!! There should be very little need for bitmaps if you ask me.

Oh, now... =) There are many types of images that look better and are also smaller in bitmap form than in vector. Try making a photorealistic.. well, anything.. in vector, and have it come out smaller than a bitmap. Storing pixel information is indeed space-consuming, but describing extremely complex and tiny vectors can be even moreso. Right tool for the right job, and all of that =)
