I'm trying to rearrange my apartment. I began by mopping the floor. LOL No I'm trying to dump the lawn sale/large-item-pickup aspect of my decor and keep it to some type of plan. I have a hardwood floor, and I always intend to have one wherever I live (allergies to dust & mites) so I can safely have birch-veneer Ikea stuff, and black metal stuff. Also black is my Clavinova piano.
I often think I exist somewhere on the autism spectrum: I loved collecting things as a kid, and I get mightily confused by choices. I have to make lists religiously, or nothing gets done because I get DISTRACTED!! I have heard that ever since I was a kid, "don't get distracted!" I get bewildered in record stores, and I have to consult my list, or I end up buying nothing. I have about 2 laundry hampersful of unfinished crafty items. Unless I make a list for errands, I get lost reading, and generally doing God-only-knows-what instead of getting housework done. I am oblivious to clutter; I have to methodically go through a room to discover lost burnt CD-ROMs, lost brand new CDs, bills that need paying, putting away half-read books, magazines, half-finished sewing projects, putting things into neat piles if I don't have a really good place for them, and right now, figuring out what to do with Christmas gifts that I don't seem to have an immediate need for. I have weirdo musical talents; I have a great ear, and I can see intervals in my head. I can spell crazy surnames of politicians and sports personalities accurately after seeing the name maybe once or twice. When I tidy up, I have to fight the urge to pull out every stick of furniture from the wall and get every last little piece of dust, otherwise I would literally be cleaning all day.
Just after doing a little bit of purging (I brought a table to Goodwill yesterday), I am already starting to feel some relief from the craziness that is my apartment. I have a couple of decorating books and I am looking forward fully to sitting down and relaxing with a mug of tea and just letting the ideas percolate. Though I would be happy with these three colours only: black, blonde-wood-colour, and white. A dark, a light, and a colour.
My goal is to have one of those apartments like the condos I peek into on my way to and from Union Station from work. Sleek, tidy, simple.
