Jul. 6th, 2005 12:55 pmWell I have heard all I want to about Karla Homolka and the Shriners hospital. But it was tres cool to hear the Montreal CBC Radio One ID, followed by Talking Heads' Life During Wartime, then Jian Ghomeshi. Ha ha ha. I wonder if the dude truly appreciates that he is heard clear across the country.
It's been unique hearing all this Karla Homolka stuff, from first about hearing about the Scarborough Rapist so long ago and having to worry about where I walked, to hearing the media stuff where she is, right out of jail, today. For those who don't know, she is settling in Quebec now that she's served her 12 years, because folks in Ontario know all about her, and the families of her victims would like to see her still in jail, despite that her sentence is completely served. She is going to start all over in French. English-language and French-language media tend to kind of have different spins on news items, and Karla is going to work that to her advantage, and try to disappear. It seems some Quebeckers could really care less about her settling somewhere in Quebec, ie she has paid her debt to society (oblivious to the "deal with the devil" point of view) and so on and so forth. However in one streeter on the radio one Francophone lady hit the nail on the head: "I have two teenagers. That woman is a monster, she killed her sister." Way to sum it up.
