Ha ha! I thought that if I got Windows instead of Mac Os X, that more of my older software would run on Windows... heh such is not the case. Not a big emergency, but a wake up call nonetheless.

My older version of Eudora wouldn't run on XP, fine, download a newer free copy. It has to do with I think how where it saves its files, that aren't accessible to anyone who isn't the Owner account. In XP, you can log on as the admin or a user, and the users have fewer permissions to access certain system files; Eudora 5 happened to store its inboxes or whatever, in a place that is now inaccessible to the everyday User accounts.

XP also creates quirks for my CD ripping software, it can only run when the Owner is logged in. (that would be me, fortunately) Which is weird because it is a fairly new program. However it requires ASPI drivers to work, which come with a warning that they mightn't run on XP. Hi hello, what do people expect us to run it on? Windows 3.1? ha ha! A program that requires you to download extra software to run, strikes me as a bit inconvenient in a DIY sense, but perhaps it's for the better because maybe it is less bloated software? But after all that, and it won't run in User login, it sounds like the software might be held together with paperclips and rubberbands nonetheless. Does the job... but maybe I should find another one? Meh, not now though.

I run it in a User account for normal day to day surfing, because surprise things cannot be installed when the User is logged in, in fact nothing can be installed then.

I just think this stuff is interesting.
